  • American Society for Microbiology and Overleaf: A Partnership to Enhance the Author Experience

Posted by Mary Anne on July 25, 2017

Washington, DC , and London, UK—July 25, 2017: The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and Overleaf announce a new partnership to expand the ASM author publishing tools to enhance the author experience. Authors submitting to ASM’s open-access journal mSystems® now have access to a custom mSystems \(\mathrm \LaTeX\) authoring template in Overleaf’s collaborative cloud-based writing and reviewing tool. Authors also will be able to submit their manuscripts to mSystems directly from within the Overleaf template.

This template was developed by ASM and Overleaf to simplify the writing and submission process for mSystems authors. The template opens in the Overleaf platform, where authors can write on the left and see their finished typeset document on the right as they write (in real time). The formatted template includes instructions to authors about each manuscript section, providing all the necessary information and requirements right where the author needs it—where they’re writing. Once authors are finished, they can submit directly to mSystems with one click. All necessary files and metadata will be transferred to the eJournalPress (eJP) submission system within mSystems.

Jack Gilbert, Editor in Chief of mSystems at ASM, says:

“Our goal is to give authors what they want and need to make submitting their work to mSystems as easy as possible. We are excited by this partnership with Overleaf and look forward to receiving papers authored in \(\mathrm \LaTeX\).”

John Hammersley, Founder and CEO of Overleaf, says:

“It’s been great working with ASM. We have a goal of making publishing easier for authors, and the newly developed authoring template and one-click submission link will help with that.”

Links to the template are available on the mSystems website. A link is also available within the Overleaf template gallery.
